Masterson’s Tavern , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , advertises itself as a stylish, alternative venue , but my latest trip at this establishment turned into one of the worst experiences of my life . While the bar may present a friendly façade, what I encountered behind its entrance was disgraceful and unfit for any venue.
The State of the Venue : Grimy and Neglected

The surfaces were tacky , and a nauseating aroma of stale beer and neglected washrooms polluted the entire venue . Emitting a scent of a mixture of ammonia , putrefaction and sour vomit . The counter , which should be the primary feature of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and trash that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks . The toilet was in even more deplorable shape — backed up, with a broken handle and walls stained in what I can only assume was fecal matter .
It wasn’t just a rare instance either. Going through other patrons’ reviews and talking to people around , it seems that the quality of upkeep (or lack thereof) at this bar another post is a long-standing issue . Many patrons have reported spotting critters darting across the bar area and evidence of rodent infestations in the storage spaces .
